The personal invitation for the athletes at the German gold medal rush in 2002 during the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City was spontaneously brought to life. Over 60 athletes have visited in the first 3 invitations to the island and enjoyed a relaxing holiday on Rügen.
Now with the forth invitation it has grown into quite a good tradition.
Invited are outstanding international and German athletes who received a gold medal in the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver. The invitations are in reference to the best performance of the top athletes.
Athletes are personally invited with a person of their choice and to a date of their choosing since June 2011. This is also in the spirit of the Olympic ideals:
Whoever makes their reservation first has free choice of their chosen hotel! This hotel is then no longer available to the later booking athletes. The date of the holiday can then be arranged by the athlete at a later stage, naturally in agreement with the hotel.
Sponsored by nearly all the 4 and 5 star hotels on the Island of Ruegen, a one week’s stay awaits the medal winners with their guest in the best houses on the Island.
In addition, a colourful selection of activities, awaits the athletes sponsored by the respective tourist agents:
from a boat trip to the chalk cliffs or to Hiddensee to many other events, sightseeing and recreational offers like swimming baths, saunas, wellness offers, sports facilities, museums, the hunting lodge Granitz, Kap Arkona, costal railway and much more which can be used during their stay free of charge.
With this gesture, the Island of Ruegen wants to present itself as a guest friendly region with a wide spectrum of first class holiday hotels and a variety of different holiday activities .
Is there a better argument for the cosmopolitism, guest friendliness and cooperativeness of the Islanders?
At this point, I would like to thank all concerned with the implementation of this idea, then that what we have put together for our athletes can really be seen.
